Because worldly ambition is not always ✨𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐲 ✨apparent in the life of a believer. It's often subtle, masquerading as godly ambition. (𝘖𝘶𝘤𝘩.) But, if we're honest, we've all been there——earnest striving for “God's glory" with secret hopes of self-exaltation and status in mind. (𝘋𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩.) 🌬𝐔𝐧𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 will take some soul work, getting honest with God about our true motives, not just in the big pursuits, but the small, daily ones, too. 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐥 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤, 𝐦𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝, 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐲, 𝐠𝐨𝐝𝐥𝐲 𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧——the kind God is after in us. Godly ambition always starts with a posture of humility 🤲🏼 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬, "𝘏𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘐 𝘢𝘮, 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥. Scripture calls us to love our neighbor. That includes the people God has placed on our block, but it also includes the ones He has placed within the walls of our homes and workplaces. That frustrating roommate, that stubborn child, the nagging, passive aggressive coworker or family member. God calls us to love them as well. They are, after all, our closest neighbors. ⁣

When we truly understand the gospel, we see that God didn’t just show us radical hospitality by loving us when we were strangers to the truth. Our ever-present God chooses everyday to be our neighbor who loves us with a radical love. And His love is what compels us to love and show hospitality to even the most difficult neighbor. ⁣

As you seek to practice these simple acts of hospitality, never underestimate the gift of presence. 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞! Whether that’s a 5 minute visit on a porch or inviting someone on a walk. As believers we are called to be salt and light, and our presence as believers is powerful. Matthew 5:13-16

When most of us (𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘺𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧) think of the word “𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺,” we might think of creating a warm and welcoming environment in our home or friends gathered around a well-set table sharing a bountiful meal. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐲 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐚 𝐛𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭. ⁣

In Scripture, “hospitality” literally means “𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘴.” We see this type of hospitality in both the Old and New Testament. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐞𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐬: ⁣

There’s a spiritual gift of hospitality, but practicing love of strangers isn’t just for those given the gift. Scripture commands all believers to be hospitable––to welcome strangers. Hospitality is about what we do with our hands but it’s even more about our 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐒. We don’t just seek to do hospitable things, we seek to be a hospitable people. ⁣

What does it mean that we’re being glorified with Christ?

So many things but here are a few 👆🏽

No more sin.
No more pain.
No more distance with God.
No more strife or conflict.
No more sickness.
No more death.
No more sorrow.

Eternity is on its way. We live today in light of this future day.

As believers, we are being conformed into the image of Christ day by day. And one day we will be fully conformed into His image–––perfectly beholding our glorious God, with perfect vision, seeing Him face to face no longer as only a reflection (1 Corinthians 13:12).

I’m from the 𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘸𝘦𝘴𝘵, I moved to Texas to attend Seminary. I serve in full-time ministry at a church that the Lord has knitted my heart to, I’m so grateful! I 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 words and I believe that 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘥 can point us to the ultimate Word––Jesus Christ. ⁣

The word 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐲 is used over 𝟏𝟎𝟎𝐗 throughout Scripture. One of the ways God’s glory manifest is through physical embodiment. ⁣

We see God’s glory through the embodiment of Jesus—in His resurrection———which we celebrate today and everyday!
⁣

Biblical hope is based on 𝘪𝘯𝘧𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘴. Hope, biblically speaking, is not necessarily set on something as much as it is set on Someone––God–––who is trusted forever, amen. ⁣

⚪️𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐛𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧. The God of the universe bought you at a high price. The price was so great that NO-thing and NO-one on this earth could pay the price. So God sent His perfect Son from heaven. Psalm 49:8⁣⁣⁣

⚪️𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐨𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐧𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐨𝐛𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧. At its best, this world can offer only temporal identities based on who you are and what you can achieve. God—the unchanging, eternal One has given you an eternally secure identity—based on who He is and what His son has accomplished for you on the cross. ⁣⁣⁣

𝟗 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 ago today I stepped into the baptismal waters––––Buried with Christ in death, raised to walk in the newness of life.⁣

When conflict arises we’ll either turn to FEAR 😰or FAITH🤗?⁣

Fear can play out in two ways:⁣
⁣
🚫 We press 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭-𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝 ➡️ we convince ourselves and others why we’re not addressing the conflict (see image #1). ⁣
⁣
OR ⁣
⁣
🚫 We press 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐭-𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥 ➡️ we convince ourselves and others why we MUST 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 confront the “other person”––– and it’s on our time and in our way (see image #2). ⁣We’re haste to confront others and tell them about themselves when conflict arises.

𝘋𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘷𝘦? 𝐈𝐟 𝐬𝐨, 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞! Let’s spend some time allowing the Lord to search our heart, only then can we begin to move 🚶🏾‍♀️towards practical steps to dealing with conflict——in a biblical way.

Rather, He rebukes their fear, which is 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭 with true faith rooted in a belief in God and His power (𝟸 𝘛𝘪𝘮. 𝟷:𝟽; 𝘗𝘴. 𝟻𝟻:𝟸𝟸). They doubted God’s character despite all the miracles Jesus had already performed (𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘬 𝟷:𝟸𝟷–𝟺𝟺). ⁣⁣⁣

𝘋𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘳? ⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
Like the disciples, we, too, often plead with God while doubting His character. The Bible likens this kind of double-mindedness and instability to a storm-tossed boat (#thebookofjames 1:5–8). ⁣⁣⁣

𝐅𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐑𝐄-𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐃⁣⁣
The last line of this scene in Mark is paramount to understanding the lesson that Jesus intended for His disciples and for us today: ⁣⁣⁣

“𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳, ‘𝘞𝘩𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘢 𝘰𝘣𝘦𝘺 𝘏𝘪𝘮?’” ⁣⁣⁣

The disciples went from fearing creation to a reverential fear of the God of creation. What caused the change? It was fear that defeated their fear—one of the paradoxes of faith.⁣⁣
What caused their shift was a fear of the Lord—reverential awe and consciousness of who He is, which silences all other fears and brings complete peace.⁣⁣⁣

Right now, in this moment... where is your fear placed? In created things or in the God of creation?

🔴 There won’t be any justice for the offense.⁣
🔴 I have to stay in this relationship/friendship.⁣

We can forgive someone 𝐀𝐍𝐃 be hurt/grieved, choose not to re-enter the toxic relationship/environment, set up clear boundaries, 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐞...in fact, to do these things would be to walk in wisdom.⁣

We know that God has freed us, as believers from the power of sin ➡️ BUT do we 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦 like we are free from the power of sin? ⁣⁣

The beauty of the gospel is that 𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐭 𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐞––––FREE to say no to the things that once enslaved us. Crazy, right? 🤔⁣⁣

The truly free person, empowered by the Holy Spirit can, as Paul says, put off the old man–––the former way of life (anger, malice, envy, bitterness, unforgiveness, lust, and the like), and put on the new self (forgiveness, kindness, gentleness, patience, love, peace, long-suffering). ✨Colossians 3:10

Christ came to set the captives free ⛓. He came to set US free so that we might LIVE free!

Only God can and will ultimately deliver us from the effects and weight of sin.⁣

Our treasures/gifts in this life were never meant to bear the weight of temporal/eternal deliverance. Only God is sufficient to deliver us.
